All the facets of Cannonau: the last head to head

Vigne Surrau Cannonau di Sardegna Riserva Sincaru 2009

Typical and varietal nose, a classic interpretation of Cannonau. The taste confirms the good impressions, it lacks slightly in structure and personality.

Prod. San Lazzaro Marche Rosso IGT Bordò 2011

Brilliant interpretation of Grenache. The variety is easily recognizable by nose with a good intensity. The flavour is rich, the fruit intense and defined, the fresh acidity makes it tasty to drink.

The comparison: a very interesting challenge. The history of the Marche's Grenache is still recent, but the results are surprising and the Bordò of San Lazzaro asserts itself over a more traditional wine of high level.

Pialli Barbarano Colli Berici DOC Cio Bacaro 2009

The only example of this area confirms the variety's character by expressing a good personality. The flavour is intense, although we would have appreciated more freshness.

Durin Riviera Ligure di Ponente DOC Granaccia 2012

A good interpretation comforted by an exceptional vintage. The nose has good evidence of fruit, the flavour expresses the wine at its best: intensity and freshness are balanced with rhythm.

The comparison: the marine freshness of the Durin Grenache fascinates us and convinces us more than the greater power of the red taj, which had done well during the selections.

Gostolai Cannonau di Sardegna Nepente di Oliena ris. 2007

A great island classic in its most intense and profound version. Shady, with a maquis nose, the flavour is concise and typical, although the wood....

F.lli Mannazzu Colli del Limbara Rosso IGT Castello di Erguri 2011

A wine with a great structure, the nose has notes of mature fruits and balsamic intentions. The mouth is tasty and juicy, rich and fascinating despite the wood.

The comparison: two very structured wines, a challenge between two rich intensities and traditions that Castello di Erguri wins thanks to its greater freshness.

Pusole Cannonau di Sardegna 2012

A young and well produced wine, the variety is recognizable to the nose despite an exuberant wood. The flavour is more interesting, an agile wine that plays on harmony more than power.

Cantina Berritta Cannonau di Sardegna Thurcalesu

A great classic, tense and intense to the nose after an initial reduction. Sapid and tasty in the mouth with hints typical of the maquis, a wine that dares.

The comparison:  Thurcalesu overcomes Pusole in a challenge that is very close despite the greater intensity and power of the rival.

Rigattieri Cannonau di Sardegna Mirau 2012

A very traditional interpretation of Cannonau, the richness of the fruit suffers due to the alcohol intensity and we would have appreciated greater precision.

Mura Cannonau di Sardegna Prisma 2012

Crabby to start, is reveals a fruity and captivating nose. The flavour confirms the typicality of a nimble and dynamic wine.

The comparison: a challenge on fragrance and freshness that Mura wins  thanks to a temperament that does not overshadow brilliance.

Contini Cannonau di Sardegna Tonaghe 2012

A nice confirmation from a historic cellar. The nose is intense and varietal with a pleasant citrusy finish. The flavour is young and vibrant, still a bit closed but it promises very interesting developments.

Walter Mattoni Marche Rosso IGT  Rossobordò 2010

Another interesting interpretation from the Marche, a wine with great intensity and softness that exalts the meaty and mature hints of the variety. A brave and wise balance between freshness and concentration.

The comparison: another surprise that confirms the value of the Marche' s enclave. The rossobordò is the winner of a challenge against a very high level Sardinian champion.

Sedilesu Cannonau di Sardegna ris. Carnevale

The land of Mamoiada explodes in the glass with its unique features, the wine is dark and concise, without making concessions. It has the exceptional intensity and personality of an ill-tempered and fascinating cannonau.

Orgosa Cannonau di Sardegna 2012

A brilliant interpretation that plays on a captivating and typical fruit. One drinks it with pleasure, the first sip calling out loudly for a second.

The comparison: although the outcome might seem obvious, the Carnevale struck us for power and character, a great wine that would only benefit from greater precision.

C. Dolianova Cannonau di Sardegna Blasio ris. 2009

A wine that expresses the best tradition of a great producer, typically rich in personality, the nose has smoked hints that enclose the fruit, the flavour is intense and coarse, fascinating.

Meigamma  Isola dei Nuraghi IGT Meigamma 2011

The floral notes are evident on a soft fruit, the wine is brilliant, juicy and fresh to the taste, despite being a bit simple.

The comparison: the Blasio reserve 2009 confirms the high quality reached by the Dolianova producer and wins a very close challenge.
